Social Media Marketing And Cute Puppies

I resisted as long as I could. It’s not that I didn’t want a dog. In fact, I love dogs. I’ve wanted one ever since my parents had to get rid of my childhood dog because he constantly ran off to terrorize golfers at the course a few blocks away.

I resisted because I just could not see how one would fit in to our busy schedule right now. I was unanimously overruled by two children and my wife. About 5 weeks ago, Jesse came to our house. She’s a good girl so far.

So I got used to it pretty quickly, and even began to brag about her to others, including posting her picture at my FaceBook profile.

That’s when I realized the power of cute pet-based marketing.  I was stunned by how many people sent direct messages to me. For the most part, they went something like this…

“Wow! What a cute puppy! What’s her name? How are things going at Scate anyway?”

Scate of course refers to our company, Scate Technologies, Inc., and my new dog had just prompted all of my FaceBook contacts to think about what I was doing these days professionally. I responded to all of them, and answered the Scate part with “Going well! We are selling Ignite all over the world now.”

So many seem to think that using social media like FaceBook and Twitter as business tools is a complicated and difficult process. As it turns out, you just have to be yourself. People are naturally curious, and learning something about what’s going on in your life will prompt them to wonder about other aspects of it.

Social media Rule 1. Do it… get started today.

Rule 2. Just be yourself.

Rule 3. If rules 1 and 2 don’t work, get a puppy.

  1. I’ve noticed that myself! I recently adopted two doggies, one a husky, the other a Malamoose (malamute/collie cross the size of a moose) and have been receiving questions about their well-being (and mine too).

Pets bring out the human nature of folk; it’s only natural to want to learn more.

  2. They will take over your life as a new child. The children will start accusing you of liking the dog more than them.

Remind them that you had to clean up after them like you do for the puppy today. The puppy will grow out of that . You will always be cleaning up after both but the dog will tend to mess only in one spot.

The puppy only asks for hugs and an occasional walk. Never for money.

The dog welcomes you home each day. They, on the other hand, just slightly acknowledge you and that will become more apparent as they get older.

The dog will never complain about the type of food or treats when she gets them.

Remind the kids that there is a new sheriff in town and it is up to them to compete.
